Overview

In Pre-K, we work on social skills such as listening and taking turns. We learn about a new Bible story each week and meet a different Letter Person, too. The Letter People help the children to recognize every letter, capital and lower case and its sound. Each Letter Person has a theme revolving around its sound. For example:

We try to read quality children's books every day and parents are encouraged to read to their children at home. Play is an important tool in learning social skills. Small motor development through coloring, cutting and manipulative toys occurs during early morning play and large motor skills happen in PE and on the playground.

By the end of the school year, children should be able to write their name in lower case letters and recognize the letters and their sounds. Some children can read as well. They know their colors, shapes and recognize numbers through 175 as well as being able to predict the next shape in a pattern. They will be able to control the amount of glue they use and they will be able to cut with scissors rather carefully.

We also go on field trips to nearby places. We've been to Green Mountain in the fall and spring, special shows at the Von Braun Center, an Ice Show at the IcePlex and Tate Farm. In the past,we've gone to Burritt Museum, Kroger, Publix, Old MadDonald's Petting Zoo and The Alabama Bread Company.

Children must be 4 years old by September 2nd to participate. Class size limited to 20 students.
