About Me

Hello, my name is Monica Naatz. I grew up in Gary, Indiana, where I attended Gary Lutheran School and Horace Mann High School. In 1982 I graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Minor in Spanish.

I have had the opportunity to live and study outside of the United States on two different occasions. During the summer of 1977, I lived in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, for seven weeks as a participant of the Indiana University Honors Program for High School Students. In 1980 I spent the fall semester of my junior year in Cambridge, England, as part of Valparaiso University's Overseas Program. Both experiences enriched my life and gave me an even greater appreciation for our country.

I came to Grace Lutheran in Huntsville in August of 1982. At that time I was known as "Miss Brandt" to my 1st graders. I taught 1st grade for four years. In 1986, I made the move to 4th grade. The 2007-2008 school year marks the beginning of my 26th year in teaching (22 years in 4th grade). I teach the following 4th grade subjects - Religion, Reading, English/Composition, Math, Spelling, Science, Social Studies, and Art. Music, Physical Education, Technology, Spanish, and Art History are taught by other Grace teachers.

I am married to Tom Naatz, who is also a teacher here at Grace. We have two children, Victoria in 8th grade and Eric in 6th grade. Both of them have attended Grace since Pre-Kindergarten. We love living in Huntsville and are happy to be a part of Grace Lutheran Church and School.

My students are special to me, and I do whatever I can to make 4th grade a good experience for them. I expect them to work hard, to be kind to others, and to ask questions when they do not understand something. They are precious gifts from God. I am thankful to be given the opportunity to touch their lives in a positive way.
